Economics and finance at Birkbeck has an excellent reputation for the quality of its research and for the quality of its training; the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise rated 20 per cent of the Department's work as world-leading and 50 per cent as internationally excellent; there are 2 research bodies within the Department: The World Economy and Finance Research Programme, which runs research projects in 26 universities, and the Commodities Finance Centre, a forum for academics and practitioners working in the field of commodities modelling; current research interests include: Macroeconomics; econometrics; finance; international economics; and economic theory.
