Birmingham City professor wins national personnel prizeOne of Birmingham City University's professors - Chris Edger - has been awarded a top prize in the Personnel Today Awards. Professor Edger is one of the university's newest appointments, joining Birmingham City Business School (BCBS) in July as Professor of Multi-Unit Leadership. He is attached to the Birmingham City University’s Centre for Leadership and Management. Professor Edger was nominated for this award prior to his appointment at Birmingham City University. Previously he was the Group HR, Service and Productivity director at Mitchells & Butler, which has 42,000 employees and brands such as Harvester, Toby, All Bar One and Browns, and together with his team he was nominated for the 'HR Impact of the Year' Award. Included in the award submission was the impact of training and development schemes at line management and retail staff level which have contributed to higher levels of stability, productivity, service and performance. Over the past year Mitchells & Butler has developed, in conjunction with Birmingham City University, ground-breaking programmes, such as the Post-Graduate Certificate, diploma and Masters in Multi-Unit Leadership which is aimed at increasing line management capabilities. On learning of his success Professor Edger said: ' This is a wonderful way to mark my first six months at BCBS. Currently M&B has six cohorts at the Business School, totalling over 100 unit and area managers, taking either the Certificate or the Diploma in Multi-Unit Leadership.
