Former MSc International Development student returns to Dutch university as Associate ProfessorA former student at leading Dutch institution, Wageningen University, has returned to her place of learning as an Associate Professor. Monique Nuijten who studied MSc International Development Studies at Wageningen University, has always been interested in social inequality, research and different nationalities, and feels that this institution is the ideal place to continue her research.
Speaking about her choice to return to her former university as a professor, Dr Nuijten says, ‘Wageningen University’s international character is unique. That makes my work very diverse; there are different projects all over the world, and there are students from all over the world. In my work at the university I like having contact with different people. During my lectures, it can easily be the case that there are people of fifteen different nationalities in the room. I don’t think you will find that at other Dutch universities.’ Currently, Monique Nuijten is working on spatial development and lifestyles in Brazilian slums with Wageningen’s Rural Development Sociology Group. This project aims to map the effect of bringing down the slums and moving the inhabitants to new quarters. Find out more about Wageningen University. Content added on 19th January 2010. |
