Postgraduate students from Birmingham Business School consult for PC WorldA group of postgraduate students from the Business School at the University of Birmingham received a substantial financial award from DSG International after impressing top executives with their ideas to improve PC World’s marketing strategy. As part of their Master’s degree at Birmingham Business School, students work with real companies to solve real marketing problems. DSG International asked students to suggest how PC World could better engage with the student market in the UK. Dr Malcolm Kirkup, who supervised the project at Birmingham Business School, said, 'We had eight groups of students on the project, applying quite advanced marketing knowledge and skills. They came up with some fantastic ideas and particularly how to use social media to engage with consumers. DSG International were so impressed with the quality of the work they invited four teams to present at their Headquarters in Hemel Hempstead and awarded a substantial financial prize to the team they felt provided the best solution.' The winning team recommended a new online and offline marketing communications strategy. Niall O’Keeffe, Head of Marketing for DSG International said, 'The presentations were very professional and business like, we see presentations from the top ad agencies and IT companies and their presentations exceeded these companies. PC World will derive real value from this work.' Find out more about Birmingham Business School. Looking for funding for postgraduate studies in 2010?
