This course enables students to address a number of key questions about the role of markets in allocating resources, the problems of collective action and other such questions whose academic rigour is no less than their topical relevance in this age of debate over the 'third way', Public-private Finance Initiatives and the privatisation of the public services; the course, taught jointly by economists, philosophers and political scientists, offers a uniquely interdisciplinary perspective which leads to stimulating seminar discussions between students and staff in the different disciplines.
