University of Gloucestershire
Business School
Introduction
The University of Gloucestershire is one of the top ten new universities listed in the Good University Guide (The Independent, April 2008). Committed to sustainability, the University was also voted in the top 5 for its environmental performance in the People & Planet Green University league table, 2008.
Location
The Business School is based at The Park on a ten hectare landscaped site about two kilometres from Cheltenham town centre. With its 100,000 inhabitants, Cheltenham is a thriving commercial hub and a major cultural centre, famous for its many festivals. A vibrant and cosmopolitan town, it is located about 90 miles (150km) west of London and 50 miles (80km) south of Birmingham.
Peaceful and spacious
The Park is considered to be one of the most beautiful university sites in the country. Blending the contemporary and the traditional, the buildings are a mix of historic villas, award-winning architecture and cutting edge computer labs.
Our courses
We offer a wide range of taught and research based postgraduate courses, from masters degrees to PhDs, and have an outstanding Doctoral programme which is now one of the largest in the UK. We offer full-time, part-time, distance and Executive Personalised Learning.
Engaged and committed
We are a member of the Association of Business Schools, ‘the authoritative voice for all the leading business schools of UK universities’, and of the European Foundation for Management Development. Our heritage and our reputation rest on a concern for individuals and their development.
Small classes and participant focus
Although we have 550 postgraduate students, classes are small so you can fully benefit from our focus on your development needs and the collaborative learning environment we provide. Our taught master’s and research students enjoy good access to staff who are keen to ensure your educational experience is a fulfilling one.
Teaching and research
Over 50 per cent of the University’s research has achieved international standard, a third of which has been rated as internationally excellent in the last Research Assessment Exercise, 2008.
Many of our staff at The Business School are actively involved in research and enterprise activities in the areas in which they teach. This knowledge base means we support and learn from a variety of organisations and ensures our teaching is relevant and up-to-date. We have active research clusters in human resource management (HRM), leadership and entrepreneurship, service provision, marketing, accounting and business information systems.
Applied research
The Business School is one of the leading centres in the country for Government-funded Knowledge Transfer Partnerships with industry and commerce. The focus on applied research and taught programmes in such fields as multimedia means the computing facilities are up to the minute.
Facilities
Facilities on-site include a refectory, campus shop, launderette, students’ union and medical centre. The Learning Centre gives excellent access to a wide range of on-line databases and journals as well as designated computer spaces and study areas for postgraduates.
